The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension and remains stable. Examination in natural light shows a definied pattern of craquelure across the surface of the painting, with associated tenting and some minor scattered paint losses. There has been an attempt in the past to consolidate the paint surface, and the extensive retouching is visible. There is an historic varnish that carries some dirt. Examination under UV light confims the aforementioned retouchings.
