Lot Essay

Sir John Murray Scott was secretary to Sir Richard Wallace and an original trustee of the Wallace Collection. In 1897 Lady Wallace bequeathed the contents of 2 rue Laffitte to Murray Scott. While these bronzes do not appear in the inventory of the contents of 2 rue Laffitte, made between 16 February and 11 November 1912, the inventory does not include all of the works from Sir Richard Wallace's Parisian collection and Murry Scott appears to have disposed of certain pieces between 1897 and 1912, particularly after the sale of Bagatelle in 1904.
