The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is supported by a modern glue lining. The paint layer is stable and exhibits an uneven craquelure. The varnish is clear. The weft and weave of the canvas have become visible on the recto, especially in the light flesh tones. In natural light restorations to the figure’s proper right wrist, chest, lower torso and draped garment are visible. Small restorations to the background to the right of the figure have discolored over time, however these areas do not distract from the overall composition. Inspection under ultraviolet light revealed additional restorations around the proper right arm and the surrounding area. The painting presents well and can be hung in its current condition. The work is offered in a decorative giltwood frame.
