Mrs. Lucille Phillips Morrison (1896-1991) was a noted American psychologist, counselor, author, art collector and philanthropist. From 1930-1972, she served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Scripps College in Claremont, California. In this role, Phillips Morrison was instrumental in the commissioning of Alfredo Ramos Martínez’s iconic mural, The Flower Vendors. Executed shortly before his death in 1946, The Flower Vendors extends 100-feet along the southern wall of the Margret Fowler Memorial Garden at Scripps College. Today the mural is considered one of Ramos Martínez’s most important public art murals, the crowning jewel of this medieval-style cloister garden, and a lasting monument to the impact of the Mexican mural movement in Southern California.
