Sued’s mature style emerged in the late 1970s as he began to approach geometric abstraction with new Constructivist rigor, using color and asymmetry to activate the edges of his canvases, displacing perception. This decentralized, chromatic tension is rendered here by the narrow bands of bright color—red, green, magenta—that establish an optical rhythm between the neutral expanses of white and grey and the color-blocked upper and lower boundaries of the canvas.
