Lot Essay

Resende employs industrial materials in sometimes unexpected ways, twisting and knotting substances into tensile and strangely surreal shapes, seemingly formed by the force of gravity. This sculpture recalls the choreography of Neoconcrete artist Willys de Castro’s Active Objects, mounted perpendicularly to the wall, which interact with the viewer in space. A dangling, abstracted arabesque, Plomb similarly activates an expressive, phenomenological experience, its snaking curves held in tension with their support and, by extension, their surrounding environment.
