Lot Essay

The present work was realized in La Havana in 2000 and donated to the ART for The World, a non-governmental organization founded in 1996, for their exhibition "Playgrounds & Toys," a fully sustainable and innovative contemporary art project for children.

"The idea of creating a city for children came to us at the time when we were working on a project titled CIUDAD TRANSPORTABLE, 2000, a transportable city with a prototype of tent-shaped housing. We scaled down this same concept for children, using the same type of structure but adding some elements, such as electrical circuits that children are not allowed to touch. There are so many things that younger children are forbidden to do. Here, they can have control over everything: they can even move buildings and streets around" (Los Carpinteros, 2000).
