Lot Essay

Icarus Theatre Collective present moving, inspiring and challenging plays across the UK and internationally. Icarus explores harsh, brutal themes with a modern examination of Theatre of the Absurd, and also offer education workshops and opportunities for young artists' development and training.

This work was donated by the artist in support of Icarus' new production of 'The Lesson', a seminal part of the Absurdist movement written by Eugène Ionesco. This production represents Icarus' commitment to accessibility by incorporating an innovative creative captioning concept that improves accessibility for Deaf and hard of hearing audiences while enhancing, rather than distracting from the action on stage.

'The Lesson' tours this autumn following its opening at Southwark Playhouse in June.
