The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on a panel made of a single board with a vertical grain. The left and lower edges of the reverse are bevelled. The pigments are well-saturated by a clear varnish. A small loss is visible along the craquelure at lower right, just above the signature. A few additional pinpoint losses are visible at the extreme edges of the panel, however, these are hidden when the painting is framed. In natural light, slightly discolored restorations are visible in the sky and to areas of the platform. The surface is slightly rubbed and the ground in visible through the transparent layers of paint in some areas. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals additional strengthening to the lower part of the table cloth and lower right corner, as well as some touches of restoration in the charlatan's clothing. The painting presents well and can be hung in its present state.
