The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
With some minor wear to enamels and rubbing to gilt; some firing flaws in the making; typical tiny chips to the applied flowers and foliage; small firing lines and other minor flaws in the making; further details enumerated below.
The fiddler- Impressed 22. Generally good condition; restoration to a few fingers on each hand, to the neck of the violin and the bow. Some small black lines to his face, possibly in the making. No chromium was found in the green enamels during XRF testing.
The drummer- Incised 7. Restored to his right upper arm and left thigh, restoration to his right hand, pipe, drumstick and to areas of his hat. A chip to his left cuff. Chromium was found in the green enamels during XRF testing, indicating 19th century decoration.
The oboe player- Impressed 31. Restoration to right hand fingers, to his left wrist and the end of horn. No chromium was found in the green enamels during XRF testing.
The triangle player- Impressed 6. Touch-ups to her green skirt; the triangle and its stick restored. No chromium was found in the green enamels during XRF testing.
The hurdy-gurdy player- Impressed 23. Restoration to her left hand; the head of the hurdy-gurdy restored, possibly a replacement. There was nowhere to XRF test the green enamels on this piece- either the elements were restored or out of reach of the XRF gun.
