KINGFISHER FEATHERS

A technique known in ancient China was the application of kingfisher feathers on paper or metal for use as hair ornaments or as picture backgrounds. From 1920 Cartier used kingfisher feathers for clock dials, the shimmering turquoise-violet mosaic gently contrasting with the colours of jade, coral and onyx.
