A technique known in ancient China was the application of kingfisher feathers on paper or metal for use as hair ornaments or as picture backgrounds. From 1920 Cartier used kingfisher feathers for clock dials, the shimmering turquoise-violet mosaic gently contrasting with the colours of jade, coral and onyx.

- Overall condition good. A few traces of tarnish and scratches throughout. Gross weight: 430 gr. - O.Bachet & A. Cartier, 2020, expertise no. BC2003-10: Art Deco desk clock with folding strut, Cartier Paris, 1928. Particularity: large arched clocks like this example are rare. The blue-green color combination with the jade and the lapis-lazuli as well as the combination of two shades of blue with the lapis-lazuli and the turquoise are colour harmonies dear to Cartier throughout its history. There is also an affirmed Oriental stylisation with the Chinese jade center piece, the cypress and the kingfisher feathers. - Case signed Cartier, nos. 2163 and 0716. Movement signed E. W.C. Co.
