- O.Bachet & A. Cartier, 2020, expertise no. BC2003-54: Art Deco miniature 'triptyque' clock with folding dial, Cartier Paris for New York stock, circa 1930. Particularity: these miniature timepieces were called 'triptyque'. This version has two dials, an exterior one with Arabic numerals and an interior one with Roman nunmerals. The square aperture permits the time to be read when the shutters are open or closed. The hands are doubled so that the time can be read normally from the exterior. The miniature aspect was emphasized with the pivoting strut contained in the base which permitted them to stand upright. Pressing the winder releases the doors to see the interior dial. The mention 'Breveté' on the dial means the model was patented, in this case by Joseph Vergely in August 1925. Vergely worked for Cartier. A Cartier New York catalogue 'Book of Gifts' from 1929 describes them as 'desk or boudoir clocks', which is erroneous, retailing for $390.
