Lot Essay

Kozman's photographic work, produced between 1937 and 1945, was influenced by his friend and teacher György Kepes, who encouraged the use of experimental techniques including "drawing" with photographic chemicals. In 1942, Kozman became one of the first five graduates of the New Bauhaus, and he received a Master's degree in Architecture in 1946. In Paris at the end of World War II, he co-published the literary and art magazine Continuity, which reproduced the art and writings of such figures as Constantin Brancusi and Gertrude Stein.
