Zimmer, 194-200 : le décrit comme une seconde édition, avec les mêmes dates que l'originale aux titres, intégrant, dans les chapitres correspondants, les traductions françaises ; Nissen, IVB, 286-289 ; Fine Bird Books, p. 93 ("Though, in a sense, two books, these are now considered as one and either must rank as imperfect without the other...At its date of issue, [it] was one of the most important of all Bird Books, both as a Fine Bird Book and a work of Ornithology. It is still high on each list").

An attractive copy, in its early-19th century British binding by Staggemeier and Welcher. The plates are printed in "reverse", that is to say inverted horizontally, and they have all been handcoloured at the time of publication. "Though, in a sense, two books, these are now considered as one and either must rank as imperfect without the other...At its date of issue, [it] was one of the most important of all Bird Books, both as a Fine Bird Book and a work of Ornithology. It is still high on each list" (Fine Bird Books).
