The painting was damaged by light damp along its ride side. This caused some of the green pigments of the background to flake. They have been repainted but the area appears as of lighter green all over. The gold used in the maharaja's garments is crackled. There are some flakes in places, mostly along the gold trimming of the maharaja's dress. The figure doesn't appear to have been repainted and is in fair condition otherwise. The right hand is slightly stained. The red and blue borders are scuffed in places, with losses of pigments.
