The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
A view of the bay of Naples seen from the South-West:
Executed on wove paper and not laid down. The paper is in generally good condition and the media remain intermittently strong, but have mostly faded.
There are some stains along the edges and the sheet is cockled. There are remnants of tape along the edges of the verso and there are some scattered scratches. The pigments have been rubbed along the edges as well as in the composition. The rubbing is most present in the areas where the paper is cockled.
A view of Paestum seen from the South-East (?):
Executed on wove paper and not laid down. The sheet is in good condition overall and the pigments remain generally strong and fresh.
There are strips of old paper and tape along the edges of the verso and there is a wormhole in the right edge. The paper is very occasionally slightly cockled and there are some scattered scratches. The edges of the sheet appear to have been retouched (by a later hand).
