Lot Essay

This dress is from L'Wren Scott's inaugural collection. She wore it to the 62nd Annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills on 16 January 2005.
The 'Little Black Dress' collection consisted of just 20 pieces. In October 2006 she staged a quiet launch to gauge the reaction of friends over lunch in a Parisian gallery. She declared, 'I started designing because, even though I am endlessly looking at clothes, there are still items I can't find. I've been making these things for years to fill gaps in people's wardrobes, so I decided to design a few pieces and see how it went.' One of her famous style tips was 'If ever in doubt, wear a little black dress'. Scott was photographed wearing this dress in US Harper's Bazaar, April 2011.
