Penelope Cruz wore this gown to accompany her husband, Javier Bardem, to the premiere of the James Bond 'Skyfall' movie in London on 24 October 2012. The next day the press ran headlines suggesting that Ms. Cruz had upstaged him by wearing such a spectacular golden gown: 'The man with the golden girl: Javier Bardem plays a supporting role as Penelope Cruz takes centre stage in sparkly gold dress...' Scott's inspiration for the 'Beau Monde' collection, on which this design was based, were 'the beautiful people on the French Riviera in the Glamour Era. Dressed up day wear to transcend from day to night.' However, this particular gown was 100% pure Hollywood glamour. It is similar to 'Beau Monde' look 32 on the catwalk, but appears to be a one-off as it has an overall shimmer of sequins rather than a patterned design like the catwalk example (see subsequent lot for look 32).
'I met L’Wren when she was a stylist. We immediately connected. After knowing her for some time, she started to share her designs with me. She was an incredible talent. She created many unique pieces that I wore for some of my premieres and the Oscars. She was a true visionary and a beautiful soul. I loved her very much and miss her immensely.' - Penelope Cruz
