A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting has been subject to an old glue relining. The relining has been correctly done. The mat varnish has extremely yellowed and is very dry with surface dirt on top of it. The varnish is blooming. In natural light, the original pigments and impastos appear nicely preserved. In natural light, some discoloured retouching is visible in the background and in the glasses. Examination under UV light reveals a green dirty varnish obscuring any further reading.
