The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting has been subject to a recent and rather stiff relining, correspondingly the paint surface has been slightly flattened.
The brown areas have somewhat saturated and the figures are abraded. In natural light, one notices the dark areas, such as the figures clothing, the wooden gallery, and the two capitals have been strengthened.
Examination under UV light reveals further strengthening and retouching throughout the composition. The left part of the composition has been more restored (especially the left pillar and on the basis of the pilar at the centre of the composition). The arches to the right have been strengthened.
Small discreet retouchings can be seen in the tiled floor and along the right edge.
Locally the craquelures have been meticulously retouched.
The painting is covered in a coat of even shinny varnish.
In a modern frame (58 x 45 x 5 cm. approx.)
