The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is executed in oil paint on canvas. The canvas has been relined in the past. It has been re-stretched on a big and heavy stretcher.
The impastos have been well preserved.
The lower part of the black dress has a heavier craquelure pattern than the rest of the paining, there are a few small retouchings visible in this part.
There is a small paint loss visible on the left side of the figure and along the bottom. A tiny piece of paint has also chipped away at the top left. It appears that the lower part of the painting (circa 12 cm of the entire bottom) has been standing in moisture which has caused the paint layer and the priming to delaminate. These paint losses have been filled and retouched. In the bottom right corner the filling is slightly coming loose. The signature seems to be on an original patch of paint.
The varnish layer presents very uneven.
All observations were made with the naked eye and under UV light.
