the canvas is relined. The varnish has been cleaned recently. The picture surface is in generally good condition. There is retouching visible along the extreme left and right sides of circa 3 cm width. This might be the sides of Maris’ original canvas which have been turned to face the front. The original impasto and pigments appear to be nicely preserved. UV light reveals the aforementioned retouchings to the left and right sides in addition to some scattered retouchings.
