The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The original canvas is supported by a wax, rather stiff relining. The varnish very yellowed with surface dirt on top of it. The original pigments have discoloured in the sky.
Strengthenings can be observed in the lower part of the vase. Along the lower right edge is a repaired damage of circa 4 by 7 cm.
A few small damages and scratches with paint losses can be seen along the lower edge.
Minor frame scuffings can be seen along all edges.
Examination under UV light reveals some minor retouchings : old restorations in the sky, along the right edge, and a few small restorations in the upper left corner, in the lower left corner, in the centre, and to the orange flowers, and a small one to the grasshopper.
The varnish turns green.
The picture would certainly benefit from a cleaning. In a modern wood frame approx. 98 x 86 cm.
