The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel consist of 2 sheets of wood, joined horizontally, a large one on the top and a small sheet at the bottom. The panel is cradled.
The old varnish is dull and has discoloured.
In natural light no obvious damages or retouching can be seen apart from locally some enhancement with glaces of blue in the sky in the upper left area and some very minor local scuffing of the frame in the varnish. The original pigments and impasto appear well preserved.
Inspection under UV light reveals the aforementioned enhancement of the blues in the upper left area in addition to local, scattered strengthening to the darker parts of the water in the immediate foreground, to the panel join, some minor strengthening of the front of the closest boat and to the top of its sail. Otherwise the varnish turns green.
The picture would certainly benefit from a cleaning.
In a modern frame, measuring 58 x 73 cm.
