The thick oak panel consist of two sheets of wood, joined vertically. The panel is bevelled along all edges. The outer edges and corners of the panel are locally damaged.
In natural light the panel join is visible above the sitter’s head. A scratch in the paint layer can be seen in the background right of her head, as well as a few scratches above her head and minor damages in the background, all retouched. The varnish is uneven and slightly discoloured.
The original pigment and impasto appear nicely preserved.
UV light reveals the above mentioned retouched scratches and minor damages in addition to very few other minor retouchings, one spot in her hair and near her ear, and on the five outer edges of the blue ribbon.
