Lot Essay

Born in Belgium, Victor Plumier (1821-1825) worked collaboratively with his brother Alphonse prior to 1843. Plumier predominately worked in Paris and became well known for his technically superior portraits. He was dedicated to the daguerreotype and continued working with the process into 1860, after reproducible forms of photography came into fashion.

These three full plate daguerreotypes are exquisitely hand-tinted, with original frames. His work can be found in the collection of The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles and The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City.
