La toile a fait l'objet d'un ancien rentoilage. Elle est correctement maintenue sous tension sur un châssis à clés et reste stable.
Le tableau présente bien, toute la netteté de la composition étant bien préservée.L'examen à la lumière naturelle révèle un certain amincissement des couches supérieures de matière, notamment au niveau des carnations, où l'on peut observer quelques retouches associées.
L'examen sous lumière UV confirme ce qui précède. On constate quelques autres retouches mineures éparses sur le drapé. On constate une griffure restaurée d'environ 10 cm qui traverse horizontalement le menton de l'enfant. La matière reste stable.

The canvas has a historic reline; this is held under correct tension on a keyed stretcher and remains stable.
The painting presents well, with all the crispness of the composition well preserved.
Examination in natural light shows some thinning to the upper paint layers, notably in the flesh tones, where some associated retouching can be seen.
Examination under UV light confirms the above. There is some further minor scattered retouching to the drapery. There is a restored hairline scratch measuring approximately 10 cm. that runs horizontally across the child's chin. The paint remains stable.
