FURTHER DETAILS
A BRONZE FIGURE OF CHRIST, CIRCLE OF FRANÇOIS GIRARDON, LATE 17TH OR EARLY 18TH CENTURY

The first works by François Girardon (1628-1715) were religious, as were his first commission and his reception piece for the Académie. Around 1691, he produced a monumental bronze Christ for the church of Saint-Rémy in Troyes, while another model, engraved by Simon Thomassin (Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Département des Estampes et de la photographie), is a great success.
It is rare to find figures of Christ that can be attributed to François Girardon, but there is no doubt that the style of Louis XIV's sculptor influenced his entire generation.
