Les premières œuvres de François Girardon (1628-1715) sont religieuses, de même que son premier chantier et son morceau de réception à l’Académie. Vers 1691, il réalise un Christ en bronze monumental pour l’église de Saint-Rémy de Troyes tandis qu’un autre modèle, gravé par Simon Thomassin (Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, département des Estampes et de la photographie), est largement diffusé. Rares sont les Christs pouvant être donnés avec certitude à Girardon, néanmoins il ne fait nul doute que la manière du sculpteur de Louis XIV rayonne sur l’ensemble de sa génération.

Excellent overall condition.
With some wear to the patina at the high points consistent with age and handling. Some mottling to the surface. Some minor surface dirt particulary to the back. Very minor casting flows.
As stated in the catalogue, the wood cross is later, with little chips. A loop to the reverse of the cross.
