English
The painting is executed on a fruit-wood panel, cradled to the reverse. The panel appears to be made up of a single board. The support remains stable.
The painting presents very well in natural light, with the details of the composition and the nuances of colour in the figures' costumes well preserved. In a raking light, some thinning to the upper paint glazes can be seen, notably in the standing figure behind the central figure in group, and in the browns of the background. There is some evidence of very minor scattered retouching in the foliage of the trees. The varnish carries some dirt, this is most noticeable to the upper left hand corner in the blues and pale tones of the sky.
Examination under UV light confirms the above observations. There is slightly more extensive retouching in the trees at upper right, and in the ground behind the male standing figure. There is further scattered retouching in the lower right hand quadrant, including in the seated female figures. The whole is under a thick, uneven varnish, which precludes a more in-depth examination of the painting. There are further traces of an old varnish on the male standing figure and to the left and right hand side of the composition. The paint remains stable.
