The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Le tableau a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage. Il est sur un châssis rapporté, à clefs.
Le rentoilage a été un peu sec et a pu tasser la matière picturale, mais quelques parties (notamment la fumée et les flammes de l'incendie) conservent des empâtements.
A l'oeil nu, on constate un réseau de craquelures assez prononcé dans l'incendie et des zones d'usure dans les fonds bruns. On constate un manque restauré dans la partie inférieure. Traces blanches le long du bord supérieur et du bord droit, probablement dues à des frottements de cadre.
A l'UV, on constate une restauration débordante au centre, à droite des flammes de forme circulaire (3 cm diam. environ). On constate différentes restaurations dans la partie droite du tableau dans le ciel correspondant peut-être à d'anciens manques. On constate également une fine restauration à environ 8 cm du bord gauche, dans le ciel. Les parties sombres sous la barque ont également été légèrement renforcées. On constate des restaurations ponctuelles sur le rivage, au centre.
Le tableau est sous un vernis partiellement nettoyé. Traces de vernis ancien dans la partie droite et sous le rivage.
Dans un cadre en bois doré (approx. 69 x 84 x 7 cm).

The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension on a keyed stretcher and remains stable. The relining process has slightly flattened the upper paint layers in certain areas, but others (notably the flames and smoke) retain some nice impasted passages.
In natural light a fine network of craquelure can be seen in the fire, and some thinning can be seen in the browns. In the lower half of the composition there is a small restored loss. There are some white marks along the upper and right-hand edges, likely due to frame abrasion.
Examination under UV light reveals a circular area of restoration measuring 3 cm in diameter to the right of the flames. There is some scattered restoration in the sky to the right of the composition, possibly corresponding to historic losses. There is a small restoration roughly 8 cm from the left-hand edge in the sky. The darker tones in the boat have been slightly strengthened. There is some minor scattered retouching to the bank in the centre. The varnish has been partially cleaned, there are traces of a historic varnish in the bank and to the right of the composition.
