The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

76 x 89,5 x 5,5 cm).

The canvas is unlined, it is held under tension on a keyed stretcher and remains stable. As viewed from the reverse a number of rectangular patches corresponding with historic restoration can be seen these are notably in the lower right hand quadrant. where these cover part of the inscription to the reverse there is associated restoration in the writing.
The painting presents very well in natural light with the strength of the composition and the depth of the colour in the cacti well preserved. In a raking light a fine pattern of craquelure can be seen across the paint surface. There appears to be some scattered retouching in the background, notably at upper left . The paint remains stable.
Examination under UV light confirms the above observations. There is further infill to the craquelure, most noticeable in the central cactus, in the cactus at upper right, and in the backgrounds in the right hand half of the composition. There is evidence of retouching to the cactus at lower left and some further minor scatter retouching. The whole is under an uneven cloudy varnish which precludes a more in-depth examination of the painting. This varnish has been partially cleaned in the upper right hand corner. The paint remains stable overall.
