69,5 x 84,5 x 7 cm).

The painting is executed on a wooden panel consisting of two horizontally joined boards. The panel is bevelled along all four edges. It is not cradled. The support is stable. The painting presents very well overall. The impasto in the foam of the waves in the lower left-hand corner of the composition is well preserved. There is some minor scattered retouching in the light grey tones of the sea, which has slightly discoloured. Examination under UV light reveals some retouching along the panel join, as well as retouching to the centre of the right-hand edge, to the upper right-hand corner and to the upper left-hand corner. The painting is under a uniform varnish, the opacity of which prevents us from seeing the earlier restorations that we can make out in the sky. The paint remains stable. In a modern frame with a handwritten label ‘Julius Porcellis 1600-1645’ (approx. 69.5 x 84.5 x 7 cm).
