The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painting is executed on oak panel, this is bevelled to the horizontal and lower edges. The panel is not cradled and remains flat and stable. There are wooden baguettes, which have been attached later to each panel edge.
The painting presents very well in natural light with all the detail of the composition and depth of colour very nicely preserved. There is a small zone to the centre of the upper edge where the varnish appears to have blanched.
Examination under UV light confirms the picture to be in very good condition overall. There is some very minor retouching to the legs of the trumpet player to the centre. The varnish has been selectively cleaned around the heads of the woman and child to the centre. The varnish is relatively thick, and slightly streaky.
