ATTRIBUTED TO PHILIPP FERDINAND DE HAMILTON (1664-1750), KINGFISHERS, LARKS, SWALLOWS AND BULLFINCHES IN A LANDSCAPE, OIL ON CANVAS

In the 17th century, animal painting flourished in the European courts, and birds became one of the favourite motifs. Kingfishers, larks, swallows and bullfinches are depicted here with a naturalist's precision. Philipp Ferdinand de Hamilton (1664-1750), a Flemish painter established at the Imperial court in Vienna, specialised in this genre with considerable talent. His depictions of birds are distinguished by the fineness of their rendering of plumage and a characteristically luminous palette. It should be noted that Dr. Fred G. Meijer has also suggested an alternative attribution to the Irish painter Charles Collins (c.1680-1744).

Philipp Ferdinand de Hamilton (1664-1750), peintre flamand installé à la cour impériale de Vienne, s'est spécialisé dans ce genre avec talent. Ses représentations d'oiseaux se distinguent par la finesse du rendu du plumage et une palette lumineuse caractéristique. Il convient de noter qu'une origine insulaire a également été suggérée par Dr. Fred G. Meijer pour ce tableau, le rapprochant de l'oeuvre du peintre irlandais Charles Collins (vers 1680-1744).
