The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Le tableau est peint sur un panneau, parqueté. On constate à l'oeil nu des fentes verticales réparties à différents endroits de la composition traversant l'apôtre endormi, le visage du Christ et les soldats du fond de la composition. Le panneau présente des enfoncements au niveau de ces fentes.

Le tableau a préservé des tons vifs et on constate du dessin sous-jacent sur certains visages.

L'examen à la lumière UV révèle des restaurations récentes et débordantes le long de la fente principale (celle traversant le corps de l'apôtre endormi) et dans le visage du Christ. On constate des restaurations plus fines le long des autres fentes. Le reste de la composition présente bien aux UV et les autres visages et les drapés n'ont pas de restaurations récentes.

The painting is executed on panel, which has been cradled. In natural light we can see a number of vertical cracks across various parts of the composition, running through the sleeping apostle, the face of Christ and the soldiers in the background. The panel shows indentations where these cracks occur.

The painting has retained a good depth of colour, and the under-drawing is visible in some of the faces.

Examination under UV light reveals recent restoration along the main crack (running through the body of the sleeping apostle), which is quite consequential, and in the face of Christ. Further restoration is visible along the other cracks. The rest of the composition appears to be in good condition in general under UV light, and the other faces and drapery show no recent restorations.
