Sale Overview

This June, the online sale of paintings and sculptures will offer a selection of works dating from the 16th to the 20th century, drawn from prestigious and varied collections. The sale will highlight a previously unknown painting by Sébastien Bourdon, a Young Revolutionary by Michel-Martin Drölling, also appearing on the auction market for the first time, as well as a powerful scene inspired by Dante’s Inferno, exhibited at the 1879 Salon by Camille-Félix Bellanger and unseen in public since 1880.

Celebrating the rise of Neoclassical aesthetics in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the sale also brings together three works presented for the prestigious Prix de Rome: Coriolanus Taking Leave of His Family (1786), Achilles Awarding Nestor the Prize of Wisdom (1820), and Orestes and Pylades Welcomed by the Shepherds (1822).

Sculpture is represented in particular by a fine selection of works evocative of the Kunstkammer, or Renaissance Cabinets of Curiosities, notably from the Payer Collection.
