7 x 10 cm).
Sans cadre.
English
The canvas is unlined. It has been recently re-stretched on a modern stretcher bar. The canvas strip lined along all four edges. The whole is stable. A rectangular salon label, printed with the number 131, is affixed to the bottom left-hand corner of the composition.
The painting presents very well in natural light: it has preserved great depth of colour and wonderful effects of light throughout. The the details of the costumes are well preserved, and the painter's fluid touch is fully appreciable. There are some fine horizontal cracks in the paint, particularly in the blue dress of the woman seated on the right, as well as in the pram in the centre of the composition, and in the left-hand part of the landscape. These can also be seen in the sandcastle at the bottom left of the composition. These cracks are linked to a previous rolling process that was carried out. Despite this, the material remains stable.
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms that the painting is in good condition overall. However, there are two areas of restoration (corresponding to canvas patches): the first in the white dress of the little girl seated in the centre of the composition (approx. 9 x 9 cm), and the second in the white dress of the lady seated to the right of the composition (approx. 7 x 10 cm).
Unframed.
