Daphnis and Chloe is based on the painting of 1743 by François Boucher (1703-1770) now in the Wallace Collection, London (inv. no. P385).

We would like to thank Alastair Laing for his assistance with this entry and for providing the attribution of this pair of paintings to Louis Simon Tiersonnier (1713/1718-1773).
