Le tableau est peint sur une toile ayant fait l'objet d'un rentoilage assez fort. La toile est maintenue sous une tension élevée sur un châssis rapporté, à clés.
Le rentoilage a entraîné un aplatissement de la matière sur l'ensemble du tableau, associé à un important réseau de craquelures. Le tableau est sous un vernis blanchâtre.
L'examen à l'UV révèle des restaurations dans les coins gauches supérieur et inférieur, associés à d'anciens accidents. Des retouches ponctuelles sont visibles sur le reste de la composition, avec des retouches plus importantes le long des bords gauche et inférieur.
La matière reste stable.

The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under correct tension on a keyed stretcher and remains stable. The relining has caused the paint surface to become flattened throughout the work, this is accompanied by a pronounced network of craquelure. The painting is covered with a whitish varnish.
Ultraviolet examination reveals restorations in the upper and lower left corners, corresponding to earlier damage. Additional minor retouching can be seen across the rest of the composition, with more extensive restoration along the left and lower edges. The paint layer remains stable.
