The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Le tableau a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage, correctement réalisé. La toile de rentoilage est elle-même doublée et est correctement maintenue sous tension sur un châssis rapporté, à clés. L'ensemble est stable.

A l'oeil nu, le tableau se présente dans un bel état général. Il a préservé de jolis tons dans les feuillages orangés et dans la roche grise. Les détails des figures sont également bien conservés. Il bénéficie d'un joli rendu de la lumière.
On constate deux restaurations ayant viré dans le ciel : la première formant une ligne oblique de 6 cm et une seconde en forme de croix de 10 x 17 cm. Celles-ci n'altèrent néanmoins pas la lecture de l'oeuvre.
On constate un amincissement des couches de matière supérieures dans les bruns du paysage.

L'examen à la lumière UV confirme les observations susmentionnées et révèle des restaurations supplémentaires dans le ciel et le long des quatre bords (tout particulièrement dans le coin supérieur droit). On constate également des retouches ponctuelles et des rehauts dans la roche et les feuillages foncés. Sous un vernis fin. La matière reste stable.

The canvas has been subject to a double reline, it is held under correct tension on a keyed stretcher and remains stable.

In natural light the painting presents well, it has retained a good depth of colour, notably in the leaves and the rocks. The details of the figures remain fully appreciable.
There are two areas of restoration visible in the sky, the first a horizontal line measuring 6 cm. and the second in the form of a cross, measuing 10 x 17 cm. The paint used in the restoration process has discoloured with age. There has been some thinning to the upper paint glazes in the brown tones.

Examination under UV light confirms the above observations, and further reveals some scattered retouching in the sky and along the canvas edges, most notably in the upper right corner. There is further retouching and strengthening in the rocks and the darker passages of the leaves. Under a thin varnish. The paint is stable.
