FURTHER DETAILS
CHARLES DE LA FOSSE, CHRIST WALKING ON THE WATERS, PEN AND BROWN INK, RED CHALK, GREY WASH, SQUARED
This unpublished drawing, on squared paper, is a preparatory to the painting of the same subject, with some differences in the position of the figures, kept in the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg (inv. GE 6787; C. Gustin Gomez, Charles de La Fosse 1636-1716. cat. rais., Paris, 2006, II, no. P108). The outrage shown in the facial expressions, which is even more visible in the present drawing than in the painting, is typical of works from the second half of the 1670s.
We thank Clémentine Gustin Gomez for having confirmed the attribution after visual examination of the work.

Lot Essay
