Le tableau a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage à la colle. La matière picturale est stable sur le support.

A la lumière naturelle, on constate que le vernis est léger. On constate également de fines craquelures dans les fonds et dans le chapeau du personnage. La trame de la toile est visible par endroits - la couche picturale y est plus légère - mais le tableau présente un bel état général dans l'ensemble. Il semble y avoir un ajout de 2,5 cm. au niveau du bord supérieure. On constate de beaux effets de matière, des empâtements dans les parties blanches du costume du chasseur.

A l'UV, on constate des retouches ponctuelles dans les fonds ainsi que sur une surface de 2,5 cm. en-dessous de l'oeil droit du personnage, sur une surface de 2,5 sur 7,5 cm. à la gauche de son chapeau dans les fonds et au-dessus du bord gauche du chapeau. Des retouches plus importantes sont visibles sur la manche droite du chasseur. La bande susmentionnée le long du bord supérieur du tableau est également visible aux UV, ainsi que des retouches supplémentaires le long des trois autres bords. Des retouches sur une surface de 5 x 2,5 cm. sont aussi visibles au centre du torse du personnage, en-dessous de son col, ainsi que le long de sa ceinture.

Le tableau est prêt à être accroché dans l'état.

The canvas is supported with a glue lining. The paint is stable on the support.

Under natural light the varnish is clear. There is a fine craquelure visible in places such as the background and his hat. There is some thinness in places where the canvas weave is visible, however in general the painting presents well. There may be a 1 in. addition running along the upper edge. Some impasto remains in places such as the whites of his kerchief.

Under ultraviolet light, scattered touches of strengthening fluoresce in the background here in there as well as over a 1 in. area below his proper right eye, a 1 by 3 in. area to the left of his hat in the background, and over the left edge of his hat. A few larger areas fluoresce on his proper right sleeve. The aforementioned horizontal strip along the upper edge fluoresces as well as additional strengthening along the other three edges. A 2 x 1 in. area of retouching is visible at the center of his chest, below his collar, along with another area on his belt.

The painting is in ready to display condition.
