The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Examen à la lumière du jour
Cette peinture a été réalisée sur un panneau de peuplier, support très souvent utilisé à l’époque. Il s’agit d’un bois tendre vulnérable au gauchissement.
La surface picturale a été refixée et ne présente plus de fragilité. Celle-ci est parfaitement stable et propre.
Le panneau est constitué de deux éléments, celui-ci a été agrandi dans le sens de la largeur, côté gauche – 3 cm. en haut et 4 cm. en bas. Ce travail d’agrandissement a été effectué à l’époque, c’est-à-dire avant la réalisation de l’œuvre.
L’angle supérieur droit a été reconstitué au moyen d’un triangle de bois de 9 cm. de haut et 4,5 cm. de large.
Une petite pièce de bois rectangulaire de 3 cm. de haut et 2,5 cm. de large a été posée à l’origine pour supprimer un défaut de surface provoqué par un nœud de bois.
On constate de nombreux petits manques de peinture sur le vêtement rouge du Christ, sur la barbe, au-dessus de la tête ainsi que sur le fond à gauche et à droite de la tête, et sur le globe.

Examen aux rayons utraviolets
Cet examen révèle une restauration formant une ligne verticale à 3 cm. du bord gauche et couvrant le raccord du rajout déjà mentionné.
On constate :
- Quelques restaurations sur les bords au niveau de l’arrête du panneau
- Quelques restaurations sur le fond à droite de la tête du Christ
- Une restauration couvrant le triangle dans l’angle supérieur droit
- Une petite restauration sur le raccord de la petite pièce sous l’œil à gauche

Les parties importantes du tableau ne présentant pas d’altérations, on peut considérer que le tableau est en dans un très bon état de conservation.

Examination in daylight
This painting has been executed on a poplar panel, a support very often used at the time. It is a soft wood that is vulnerable to warping.
The paint surface has been refixed and is no longer fragile. It is perfectly stable and clean.
The panel is made up of two elements, this one has been enlarged in the direction of the width, on the left side - 3 cm. at the top and 4 cm. at the bottom. This enlargement work was carried out before the work was produced.
The upper right-hand corner has been reconstructed using a wooden triangle 9 cm. high and 4.5 cm. wide.
A small rectangular piece of wood, 3 cm. high and 2.5 cm. wide, has originally been used to remove a surface defect caused by a wood knot.
There are numerous small paint losses on the red garment of Christ, on the beard, above the head, on the background to the left and right of the head, and on the globe.

Ultraviolet examination
This examination reveals a restoration forming a vertical line 3 cm. from the left edge and covering the join of the addition already mentioned.
The following can be seen:
- Some restorations to the edges at the level of the panel edge
- Some restorations to the background to the right of the head of Christ
- A restoration covering the triangle in the upper right corner
- A small restoration on the connection of the small piece under the eye on the left

As the important parts of the painting have not been altered, the painting can be considered to be in a very good state of conservation.
