L'émailleur connu sous le nom de Maître K.I.P., actif vers 1550, a notamment produit des objets aux dimensions réduites et des petites plaques de coffret telle celle conservée au musée du Louvre (La mort d’Absalon, inv. OA 3094). Certaines de ses œuvres étaient signées KIP, KI, IP ou IPK dans un cartel blanc. Son style est atypique avec des grisailles sur fond noir et des reprises à l'aiguille de certains décors architecturés et des visages. La présente plaque en médaillon est d’une extrême précision et le traitement de la dorure en partie supérieure d’une qualité exceptionnelle.
The enameller known as Master K.I.P., who was active around 1550, produced, among other things, objects of reduced dimensions and small casket plaques such as the one in the Louvre Museum (The Death of Absalon, inv. OA 3094). Some of his works were signed KIP, KI, IP or IPK in a white cartel. His style is atypical, with grisaille on a black background and needlework on certain architectural decorations and faces. The present medallion plaque is extremely precise and the gilding treatment in the upper part is of exceptional quality.
