A l'œil nu, le tableau se présente dans un bon état général de conservation. Il est peint sur un panneau d'une planche non parquetée, légèrement biseautée, sertie de deux petites baguettes en bois sur les côtés. Le panneau est parfaitement stable.

A la lampe UV, le tableau apparaît sous un vernis ancien très épais. On constate une restauration en bas à gauche autour de l'enfant avec le livre ouvert. Reprise ponctuelle dans le foin en haut de la composition et dans les craquelures verticales autour du maître d'école. Bon état général aux UV.

Dans un cadre français de la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle en noyer avec un cartouche 'A. van OSTADE / ÉC. HOLL. 1610-1684' (approx. 30 x 34 cm.).

To the naked eye, the painting appears in a good overall condition. It is painted on an uncradled single board panel, slightly bevelled and flanked by two small wooden sticks on each side. The panel is perfectly stable.

Examination under UV lighting reveals that the painting is under an old and very thick varnish. A restoration on the lower left around the child holding an open book is visible. A punctual retouche in the hay on the upper part of the composition and in the vertical cracks around the schoolmaster. Good overall condition under UV lighting.

In a French walnut frame from the second part of the 18th century with a cartouche 'A. van OSTADE / ÉC. HOLL. 1610-1684' (approx. 30 x 34 cm.).
