Le tableau a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage ancien, correctement réalisé. La toile est maintenue sous tension.

A l'oeil nu, on constate des repeints ayant viré dans la partie gauche du Grand Canal. Le ciel bleu laisse légèrement entrevoir par endroits la préparation rouge.

A l'UV, on constate des retouches le long des bords inférieur, supérieur et droit, ainsi que dans le Canal, en face de l'entrée du palais. On constate des retouches ponctuelles dans le ciel, ainsi qu'une retouche plus débordante dans le palais à gauche, dans les bruns. Les architectures sont bien préservées. Sous un vernis fin récent, avec des traces de vieux vernis par endroits, comme dans les gondoles par exemple.

Dans un cadre en bois doré sculpté (approx. 73 x 86 cm.).

The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable.

The painting presents well in natural light, with the detail of the composition well preserved. To the left-hand side of the canal some old retouching can be seen that has discoloured with time. There has been some thinning to the paint glazes in the sky.

Examination under UV light reveals some retouching along the canvas edges, with some scattered retouching in the sky. There is some further retouching in the palace to the left hand edge of the composition. The painting has been recently revarnished. Some traces of old varnish can be seen in the gondolas. The paint remains stable.
