46,5 x 39 x 4,5 cm).
English
The painting is executed on a fruitwood panel, made of a single board. The reverse has been painted with a preparation layer. There is a small loss to the lower left-hand corner as viewed from the portrait side. There is a hairline crack that runs vertically from the centre of the upper edge down into the child's forehead, which measures approx. 7 cm. The panel remains stable. In natural light the painting presents very well. There are two minor areas of retouching to the child's forehead, one of which has slightly discoloured with age. These do not affect the sculptural quality of the artist's original execution. In a raking light there is evidence of some scattered retouching to the background and the centre of the child's costume. Examination under UV light confirms the above observation. It reveals further retouching to the background at upper centre and a small zone of retouching to the left of the child's neck. The whole is under a slightly discoloured varnish that precludes a more in-depth examination. In a giltwood frame (approx. 46,5 x 39 x 4,5 cm).
