ATTRIBUTED TO JEAN-BAPTISTE GREUZE, PRESUMED PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG BOY IN A GREEN SUIT, OIL ON CANVAS

This portrait was at one time thought to be that of Louis-Charles de France (1785-1795), the future Louis XVII, because of its resemblance to portraits of the Dauphin from the Château d'Aulteribe (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) painted by Jeanne-Philiberte Ledoux (1767-1840). It was under this title that it was included in the illustrated catalogue of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (A. R. Murphy, 1985, op. cit. supra), when the portrait was still in the collection of the American museum (inv. no. 87.409).
